Sometimes in life we all find ourselves too close to a problem to even notice it.
Luckily the universe usually finds a way to bring these offenses to our attention. These signs can come in any variety of forms, in my case it arrived in the likeness of a Fox News headline: Christian college drops ‘Crusaders’ nickname in bow to ‘global society’
First of all, good for them. In the grand scheme of offensive mascots I’d say they’re at the lower end of that spectrum, but I wholly support thinking globally.
Still, the story gave me pause. So on behalf of 2WC, I’d like to set the record straight:
Our name is neither an endorsement of the bloody religious-fueled campaigns of the Middle Ages, nor in any way associated with the Catholic Church (beyond the fact that we are Catholic…we’ve got the guilt to prove it). Both myself and Zer are most definitely anti-marauding and stand firmly against forcing your religious beliefs on the unsuspecting masses as you maraud them.
Whoo, glad I got that off my chest.
Finally: we regret nothing, we’d do it all again, and sorry to any one who arrived at this blog with the grave misconception that we are medieval history buffs.
