Everyone’s favorite government agency, has taken an interesting approach to deterring those who would try and sneak their dangerous carry-ons into the nation’s skies.
No, they haven’t added yet another invasion of our privacy and personal space to the theatrical event that airport security has become. They’re using a nice healthy dose of public shame, or if you prefer—Instagram.
The Transportation Safety Administration has started posting images of confiscated items to their Instagram account. The range of offending items is bordering on ridiculous.
Visit the TSA’s page and you’ll see everything from box cutters to a rather impressive collection of fireworks (I’m sure they thought that was safer than checking it).
Unfortunately , this amusing campaign has way too much potential to backfire (literally). It’s not a bad idea, but you have to wonder if reckless travelers might choose to see it as a challenge rather than a deterrent.
Only time will tell, but until then we can all get a good laugh at the expense of the individuals who tried to carry on a loaded firearm and a disarmed grenade.
