Superstitions. We all have them. We may call them by another name (like routine), but we all have our own idiosyncracies that get us through.
These along with a belief in magic or powers beyond our control actually improve our chances at success. Putting the conrol in the hands of something bigger than ourselves, whether it be God, karma, or some poor rabbit’s severed foot, gives us the confidence we need to perform at our best. It makes sense.
Some may see this as an explanation for religion. I choose to see it as confirmation that Harry Potter knew what he was doing. We can always use a some magic in our lives. Now we have a study to prove it.
Does that mean we’ll always come out on top. Of course not. The world is a random and sometimes harsh place. So why not believe in a little magic?
