Day 349: Wind of Change.
My boyfriend is extremely romantic, there's no question there, but recently his letters, his mots d'amour have been coming with political propaganda or in our e-mails, video attachments, sharing with me the politics of my new country. Not so romantic, but interesting nonetheless because talking politics seems to always be a topic du jour in France where I find myself doing the fake nod and sigh, feigning that I am just as passionate about foreign policy and legislation as my current cocktail hour company. I feel guilty, I really should be more involved. It gets embarrassing when the only thing you hear is the sound of my back molars grinding down on cacahuètes when I'm asked to compare French and American politics.
With their presidential election heating up, Séb's love notes have gotten more political. Last night, he couldn't resist sending me this video that he knows I would appreciate because of the soundtrack, and that it acknowledges that France isn't just polished apartments that only really exist in the 16th, supermodel first ladies, croissants and Macaron Day, and that just like any of other major city there's the working class looking for change. A country looking for change? Does this sound familiar?
While I know who I'd vote for if I was eligible to vote, I'm keeping my opinions to myself because after all, I'm not French. I did however get a kick out of this video that brought me back to 2008 when us Americans were looking for change and new beginnings, moving beyond conservative thinking. Perhaps it will work out better for France than it did for America, which I can only imagine has been a bitch to clean up.
Lucien would have a fucking heart attack if he saw this clip. It only makes me love it more...
Enjoy.
