Several times over the last two weeks I have been reminded of something. It is increasingly difficult for some people to see what is right in front of them. There are pictographs, symbols, signs, crop circles depicting the point and sky writing. Sometimes there are even graphs, charts, power points and maybe even a You Tube video about it, but they still don’t see it. I bet if they even got a secret decoder ring in their box of Cracker Jacks, it still wouldn’t clue them in. I have come to one conclusion. It is not your job (or mine) to help these people figure things out. If they can’t see the “writing on the wall” who am I to translate?
I am advising all of us to keep our secret decoder rings and walk away. The truth is, if it is that evident, the person doesn’t want to believe and nothing you say will change that. Believe me, I know it’s frustrating, but we should all take up a hobby instead like oh, I don’t know, planning our Mount Everest climb or shark diving. We would accomplish greater goals with our new-found hobbies than we ever would trying to make Belshazzar see the light.
So the next time this happens to you, hand them one of these bad boys and walk away. The problem is theirs, not yours. Well, I got to go get my wetsuit on…ummm, maybe I’ll find another hobby. Looking at those photos just caused me to remember why I never liked the movie Jaws. Scary. I think I’ll play Angry Birds instead.
