…Draw Fire

Posted on the 27 March 2013 by Zer @the2women

photoFor the past few weeks, one of the greatest battles of the modern age was waged.

Odds are you were blissfully unaware.  Odds are even greater that you couldn’t care less.

You’ve probably never heard of Spamhaus (a European nonprofit organization that works to block spam from the Internet) or CyberBunker (the attacker).

Just to drive the point home a bit more, here are a few more factoids:

  • CyberBunker got pissed off at Spamhaus after being added to the nonprofit’s blacklist of sites that are blocked by spam filters.
  • CyberBunker’s attack data stream is at 300 gigabits per second.
  • The attack is a DDoS — basically a lot of Internet traffic is directed at one target in hope of congesting it and knocking it offline.

Anything strike a chord?  If not, this might.

An attack of this kind can cause the Internet to slow down.  To put it in laymen (or Al Gore terms),  the Internet works like a set of pipes and CyberBunker is clogging up those pipes.

If that doesn’t have you concerned, then you probably don’t use a computer on a regular basis (and probably aren’t reading this).

For the rest of you, if you still don’t care, well, you should…
