Its that time of the year again where many of us like my daughters eczema likes to flare up and make an appearance, leaving her with dried scaly patches all over her skin. It also doesn’t really help when she constantly scratching leaving her with scabs as well. I have gone through trial and error to try and control her eczema. Of course the goal is trying to relieve and prevent the itching which stops the scratching preventing from later developing an infection.

There are many ways I have tried to target this condition and so far I have kept it under control. Since eczema leaves you feeling like you have alligator skin the first step is keeping your skin moist. It is recommended to avoid scented lotions, shampoos and body washes to prevent irritating the skin, during this time your skin is extremely sensitive. After showering, while your skin is still lightly damp apply baby oil to lock in the moisture for a few hours.

Another product which I highly recommend is the Aquaphor healing ointment from Eucerin. It is a skin protectant which helps alleviate cracked, dry skin. This product is not only for diaper rashes but I have applied the ointment on all the flare up areas, its a thick clear constancy which helps with dryness and itchiness, it is best to apply the ointment throughout the day in combination with lotions in my cause I use Aveeno to keep the skin moisten and of course both products are fragrance free. This daily routine has reduced flare ups and has kept her eczema under control, hope this helps you control yours.
