“Equal pay for equal work”–if you haven’t had this slogan ringing in your ears recently then you really need to catch up with your current events.
Yesterday, the Paycheck Fairness Act was brought to the Senate floor and, as predicted, did not pass.
It’s hard to qualify this as a large blow to the cause. At this point, this women’s rights movement is use to it. And given it’s timing, this particular effort was most likely a political maneuver to pick up female voters, rather than a genuine push for equality.
Still, it does bring up some not so flattering issues in our modern society. Why, for instance, is this even still an issue? Is it just a political stunt being kept in the rotation to garner votes every few years?
Most of us probably don’t want to know the answer to that second question. It seems a high price to pay just to get someone elected, and sadly they’re not the ones who are paying it.
