Fashion…should I Stay Or Should I Go?

Posted on the 07 March 2013 by Bellshann @bellshann

Fashion is a tricky subject for me. I’ve always enjoyed spritzing up photo shoots and designing them for the pure fact that it’s fun and beautiful, but in the grand scheme of things, how important is fashion really? My answer is not really. Of course, I love buying new clothes, (although I’m not that great at knowing what looks good on me!) who doesn’t, but this billion pound industry is starting to take over the world. Some of you fashionista’s may read this and think YES, fashion deserves to take over the world! And I do partly agree with you, it’s great reading a good ole’ magazine, starting a new diet to get the ‘perfect’ size 0 figure and even learning new things about cultures and ways of life, but surely there is more to the world than fashion!? One of my dreams is to travel the world, and I want to do this because I long to learn about new cultures and ways of life. I want to meet people who I would never have met should I never leave England. I want to experience they way people we have no idea exist have to live their lives day in day out. If I found a piece of clothing and accessories on the way, I’d buy it because I like it, and it reminded me of that place. The last thing that would go through my mind would be ‘Oh my God it’s Versace I MUST buy it.’
Where am I getting at with all this? Well, some of you may have read a week or so ago that I photographed the catwalk at London Fashion Weekend and it really got me thinking. For a start, I knew I definitely didn’t want to pursue my career in fashion photography, but I already knew that. I mean, what’s thrilling about being confined to one spot and photographing the same thing for 20 minutes, just different models and different clothing? I can absolutely see why someone can enjoy this, don’t get me wrong, however it’s just not for me…at least not 24/7!
Despite saying all of this, I was quite inspired by the designs I was photographing. Designer Louise Gray first came out to explain her collection. She said how she wanted all women to feel comfortable in themselves and be daring. Her clothes are colourful and wacky but she believes anyone can wear them and feel comfortable, even if you just wear the tights! I really loved her professional ethic and way of looking at life and it was refreshing to hear someone who isn’t just there to sell the latest trends and have their clothes in magazines, she truly wants to make a difference in someone’s life through fashion.

So, without further ado, lets see some of her clothes and you can decide if you like them or not!
(We all know I’m partial to black and white photography, however the collection was so bright and colourful, and that was the point of it, it wouldn’t be right to change the images. However one outfit was black and white so I’ve made the most and changed that one!)

This was model was amazing, wouldn't it be great if we all had this confidence!

It's not quite my thing but this outfit was pretty cool!
