Have you ever seen a picture of chocolate (like this one to the left) and suddenly found yourself craving chocolate?
Of course you have! You’re human aren’t you? Unless you’re one of “those” people who “don’t like chocolate” in which case I have nothing to say to you. You are past all hope.
The rest of you. Congrats, you’re normal and apparently have something in common with cocaine addicts. A recent study found that seeing images of food (that you like) triggers a reaction in your brain similar to those seen in drug addicts.
Translation: Seeing a picture of chocolate will most likely make you crave chocolate.
The only thing shocking about this study is that it took a study to uncover that images of food make people crave food.
Anyone who’s wasted any time on Pinterest or watched a minute of Food Network programming could have told you this. One does not spontaneously crave a lemon-ginger cupcake with raspberry filling, cream cheese frosting and a sprig of mint on top. It takes a little help.
Of course, the idea being that if you avoid images of food then you will avoid food, or at least eating it when you’re not actually hungry. Good luck with that.
Still, my apologies to today’s readers for so terribly tempting you. Except, of course, for “those” people, but really…who doesn’t like chocolate?
