We’re several days into the Sochi Winter Olympics, and while the games have been fairly drama free, Mother Mature is starting to interfere.
It seems no one let the weather know that Sochi is hosting the Winter Games, not the Summer. Monday’s high in the Russian coastal town reached 61 degrees. Thankfully, all the events actually taking place in Sochi, are held at indoor arenas.
However, that balmy weather even caused some issues 40 miles away at the mountain events location, where Olympic officials were forced to cancel training runs, and reschedule events.
If you’re thinking that’s just rotten luck, consider the fact that the average February daytime high in Sochi is 50 degrees.
But on the bright side, Beijing’s dream of being the first city to host the Winter and Summer games could become a reality (Atlanta, so could you). Plus, we can all relive that indescribable combination of delight and terror we felt during the opening ceremonies.
Olympic committee, you brought this on yourselves.
