…Find the Source

smartphoneWith the holidays over (for now…we see you Valentine’s Day) and a few more months of winter to go, it’s time to batten down the hatches.

We’re in the middle of the flu season, and if by some miracle you made it through all the holiday parties and family gatherings without coming down with some illness or other, well, you officially have a target on your back.

This flu season is already proving to be a nasty one, with influenza widespread in more than 80 percent of the US.

Despite our best efforts, those of us who are healthy, can feel the influenza surrounding us.  It’s only a matter of time before we all start to feel that tickle in our throat, and then the paranoia kicks in.  Sure, it may turn out to just be a dry throat or a slight head cold, but that won’t keep most of us from playing the blame game.  After all, it definitely wasn’t our fault we caught the flu.

Lucky for us, technology has caught up with human nature.

“Help, My Friend Gave Me the Flu,”  a new Facebook app, skims through your Facebook friends to find the germ-spreading culprit, or the very least, your whiniest Facebook friend.

Searching for words like “coughing” or “sneezing” or even “feeling run down,” it picks out your top suspects.

The results may not be 100 percent accurate, so I wouldn’t conduct any fever-induced, overly dramatic inquisitions based on the findings (you should probably be in bed).  But at least you can rest easy (or collapse in a heap) knowing that you have someone else to blame.
