…Flip a Coin

…Flip a Coin

It’s Super Bowl Sunday.  We have to admit,  we’re mildly indifferent (well, half of us are), but why not make this a little exciting?

2WC had their own coin toss in preparation for this Sunday’s game.  There was no winner or loser.  Well, that depends on what part of the country you hail from.

The premise was simple, heads: Zer gets to root for the Giants; tails: Zer begrudgingly has to root for the Patriots (want to guess which half of us claimed mild indifference?).

And the coin toss went to:

Zer: I won!  I mean, I got the Giants.

Before I throw my full support behind the future Super Bowl XLVI Champions, I need to make one thing clear.

It’s not that I’m a huge Giants fan.  I just really, really do not like the Patriots.  Call it a personal grudge if you want.  I still believe the Patriots stole the “Greatest Show on Turfs” mojo back in 2002.  Had I lost the coin toss,  rest assured, my “cheering” for the Patriots would have been subversive to their winning efforts (it’s possible).

Now that I got that out of the way, here is why the Giants will be winning tonight’s game.

It should come as no surprise to those who pay the least bit of attention to American football, that the Giants are not the favorites in tonight’s game.  However, low expectations are quite often a blessing in disguise when it comes to championship games.

According to the betting odds, the Giants should just be happy to be there.  If they lose, their fans will be disappointed, but no one will be incredibly surprised.  They have nothing to lose (other than the game, of course).

In other words, the pressure is off, or as off as it can be in a game like the Super Bowl.  They can just sit back, relax and kick some Patriot butt.

Go Giants!

Stephanie:  I lost the coin toss.  It’s not that I dislike the Patriots.  It’s just that I don’t like them.  It’s a completely independent emotion.  Plus, the word dynasty kind of bothers me.  That and I’m fiercely loyal to my Rams, and unforgiving.  Don’t think I forgot 2002.

However, I suppose, in the spirit of competition and on behalf of my familial ties to the New England region, I should try.

It’s true my great efforts to root against them have proven to be rather fruitless (aside from 2008 of course).  Perhaps it’s time to throw in the towel and join the winning side.  They are part of a dynasty after all…still don’t like the word.

Although, maybe I’ve been looking at this the wrong way, maybe it wasn’t that my cheering for the opposition wasn’t impactful (riddle that double negative out), it just wasn’t impacting where I wanted it to…maybe…

Let’s go Pats!
