I think we all remember that snarky romp through pre-WWII Austria with Carrie Underwood and who could forget Neverland with Christopher Walken?

This go-round we’re heading over the rainbow with “The Wiz.” I know there’s a fair amount of sarcasm surrounding past productions, especially from those playing along at home on Twitter. For my part, I think a lot of smart choices went into this year’s show:

They cast an unknown in the lead. You can’t not root for that. They teamed up with Cirque du Soleil. The design looks amazing. They threw a fair number of bones to theater dorks (Stephanie Mills, Elijah Kelley, and David Alan Grier) while casting the show with names that will draw in those larger demographics (Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Amber Riley and Uzo Aduba). Oh yes, “Orange is the New Black” fans, Crazy Eyes is a Broadway star…enjoy weeping through this one:

Plus there’s the fact that thinking about thinking about the song “Home” makes me tear up…yes this blog post was brought to you by half a dozen Kleenex and some ugly crying…It is a powerful song.

…and let’s face it the snark monsters are likely saving their energy for FOX’s live musical debut in January…brace yourselves, you hot mess of a show, “Grease,” they’re coming for you…

…bi-daily smile (with a side of ugly crying)…
