Friday’s Fancies #42: Outfit Crush!

Posted on the 18 January 2013 by Kcsaling009 @kcsaling

It sounds odd, but the more I immerse myself in the worlds of fashion and food, the more similarities I find – like the impact it makes when unexpected pairings work. Sake with spicy Thai soup. White chocolate and caviar. Cocoa powder over venison. Weird, yes. Tasty, absolutely. Trust me. If you understand the elements of the foods you’re trying to match, you can make some amazing and unexpected combinations!

The same goes for fashion, especially with this year’s Pantone Color of the Year: Emerald. An unexpected pairing I found and really liked was this emerald frock with accenting touches of…purple!

Now isn’t that nice? Come on, admit it – when I said I was mixing emerald and purple before, you had visions of the Joker, right? I really like the pretty accents of purple here, but I prefer an amethyst shade – if I were to do my own take on this combo, it would look more like this:

Coast dress + Forzieri ankle wrap sandals + Bottega Veneta snakeskin handbag + Necklace + Diamond jewelry + Gold stud earrings

I love the amethyst touches with this gorgeous wrap dress, and the freshwater pearl jewelry accents are definitely things I would wear! I know – red hair + green + purple could be a scary combination, but I’m living on the edge this year.

If you’re interested in more information on creative foodpairing - or just some great food info in general – check out TigerChef. They deal in primarily restaurant and professional grade kitchen equipment but their blog and chef forum are great places to get information on fine-tuning your culinary skills!

What unexpected pairings, in fashion or in food, make you sit up and take notice?
