Hi all, and happy Friday! I’m always happy to see a Friday roll around, especially after a hugely busy week! Because of the sheer amount of stuff I’ve had going on {it’s almost all good stuff, but it’s still stuff}, and because of the nice li’l Nor’easter coming our way, the hubby and I are shelving our plans to head into the city this weekend and are just going to hang around locally with friends. Yes, I had big ambitions for MB Fashion Week events, especially the Fashion Plate line-up this weekend, but I really don’t feel like being stranded in the city during a storm.
All these winter storms get me thinking ahead to spring, and this week’s Friday’s Fancies theme is centered around the ultimate winter-to-spring transition item: layers. Lovely layers. I started to think about how I’ve transformed my warm-weather wear for winter using layers, and how to go the other direction. I’m still feeling cold, so this is the direction my thoughts turned:
layers in black and blue by kristin-saling featuring knit sweatersMango dress + Karen Millen knit sweater + Ted Baker black trench coat + Gerbe black shaping tights + Bay & Fyfe Teal & Blue Scarf + Madison Harding wedge ankle booties + Sophie Hulme soft flap bag + Lucky Brand blue earrings
This particular set came as a surprise. I started crafting a layered look, but then the black and teal colorblock dress ambushed me. That color always makes me think of words like “beach” and “Santorini” so I didn’t expect to use it in a cold weather look. I started adding more elements and found it lended itself to a mod-style look, and I just went with it! It’s one of those pieces that can be easily adjusted for cold by adding the black tights and the sweater {which can be worn over the dress or for a lighter sweater, under}, and the jacket can be changed out with a flowing cardigan.
How do you adjust your looks using layers?
