…Get Carried Away

With summer quickly coming to a close, a lot of us are taking to the skies for one last getaway.

When it comes to air travel, there is no shortage of things to complain about.

Bring up delays, and you’ll have people sharing their own personal inconveniences and horror stories for hours.

Dare to mention security, well you brought that fury storm on yourself.

While we’re all busy blaming the airlines and security, we do tend to overlook a huge contributing factor to an unpleasant travel experience–ourselves.

Now the only thing worse than the long lines at security, is the attitudes of many of our fellow passengers.

Air travel use to be a privilege, a special occasion, and a chance to put our best foot forward as we took to the air.

A recent string of dress code issues has created a public outcry.  It seems we’ve forgotten that air travel is not a god given right, but a business.  Much like a restaurant can throw you out if you show up with no shirt or shoes, an airline can ask you to leave if you are dressed inappropriately.

Of course, there’s always the issue of where to draw the line.  With no clear guidelines, it’s hard to enforce a policy that doesn’t really exist.  And can you really enforce common sense, decency and respect?

I guess for now, the rest of us will just have to grin and bear it as we find ourselves squished in between the woman who forgot to put on half her outfit, the guy who lost his belt and so-and-so who likes to wear their vulgar vocabulary in t-shirt form.
