This Boxing Day, while our British brethren celebrate this charitable day, I have a different sort of (also British) box on the brain, a Police Box to be precise and its former and current resident.
Any regeneration is an event in the world of “Doctor Who,” but this one carried extra significance, as the role, for the first time in the show’s long history, was handed to a woman.
Last night the new Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker, spoke her first words, and it was, in a word, “brilliant.”
Of course, as Whovians know, the last words of any Doctor are just as important as their first, and Peter Capaldi’s lived up to its predecessors, and I hope hinted at where his successor will be heading [spoiler warning]…
His final words of wisdom, for his future self, are telling and promising…
Remember — hate is always foolish… and love, is always wise. Always try to be nice and never fail to be kind.”
So where will the next Doctor be headed…other than her current position of plummeting towards Earth’s surface at an alarming rate? (I did warn you.)
We will, unfortunately, have to wait and see, but the future (and past and present) of this Time Lord looks just as promising as it ever did and I can’t wait to find out.
…bi-daily smile…
