The onslaught of 3-D movies have presented their challenges to lovers of film. Lucky for us our friends in the world of technology are looking out for us. They are hard at work perfecting 3-D movies that require no glasses.
Because don’t you just hate that you have to wear those ugly, heavy glasses while watching that dimly lit image, that for no apparent (or thematic) reason is jumping out at you?
No? Neither do I.
Spoiler Alert: The glasses are not the problem guys.
Do people actually complain about the weight of 3-D glasses? Are they straining the bridge of your nose? Are your ears tired? If so it might be time to hit the gym for some facial toning. Seriously, if your only complaint about 3-D movies is the heft and style of the glasses then I’m shocked you were willing to pay the extra fee to see the movie in 3-D in the first place.
Turning a medium that can be used to tell wonderfully moving revelatory stories into a mere vessel for spectacle is the problem. Not to mention, that it’s a spectacle we’ve now seen many times before. Then charging an extra 4 dollars to see that gaudy festival is adding insult to injury.
Yes, it’s cool that they can make 3-D images without the use of glasses. I admit that much, but unless they can guarantee that only quality, logical, heart-warming stories will be projected via this technology, I remain unimpressed.
I will say this much: in a sea of unnecessary 3-D madness the good ones really do shine brighter.
