…Get Technical

Every day, we find out more about how the government is invading our online privacy (if that’s an actual thing).

It seems like we have too options just accept that our personal info is not in fact our own private property, or completely erase your Internet presence.  The first option may look like the delusional, defeatist option…but we all know it’s not actually possible to remove anything from the Internet.

This week, there’s some surprisingly good news (sort of).

Today, Yahoo and Facebook each filed suits requesting that the government grant them permission to reveal information about the number and types of requests for user data that the companies receive.  This is on top of two similar suits filed by Google and Microsoft back in June.

Now, the skeptics might point out that these same companies didn’t seem compelled to request this information before someone blew the whistle on the whole operation.  And they have a valid point.  It does seem like too little too late.

But on the other hand, it is something.  Maybe this way, order can be restored, and we can all go back to feeling like we have a right to our privacy…even if that’s far from true.
