…girl (em)power

Happy Christmas in July! …or I suppose Merry Christmas in July! I’ve gotten you a present.  [Spoiler Alert] It’s an Olympics blog with a feminist twist.

This year marks the first time ever that every participating nation’s team includes female athletes.  Mind-blowing right?  What took so long?

I don’t consider myself a feminist, perhaps shocking coming from half of the The Two-Woman Crusade–a title which would strongly disagree with that statement. My reasons may (at least I hope so) differ from what you’d expect.

To put it simply: I don’t think believing that all people should be treated with fairness and respect should require a label, let alone one with such stigma attached to it.

Having said that.  It’s about time!  You go girls!

Relatively speaking, it’s been a good couple of weeks for women. Yahoo! hired a female CEO, all the girls get to play at the Olympics (well all the ones in countries participating who have some level of athletic ability, but it’s progress), and the Spice Girls are reuniting for the closing ceremonies.  Girls, enjoy this moment.

It’s a good time to be a girl.  Unless of course you expect to be paid fairly.  You win some, you lose some.
