Silence is not absent of sound, but rather a shifting of attention toward the sounds that speaks to the soul. - Thomas Moore in The Re-enchantment of Everyday Life
The [Good] lessons we learn. Our entire air conditioner unit is being replaced. Everything, the inside and outside parts (technical term). It has been needing to be replaced for about a year, we have been limping along waiting until winter for hopefully cheaper rates. The time has come, the date was scheduled for yesterday February 22nd. (It was scheduled by the technician the day before). We asked, will it be done in a day? "Yes it will, should be no problem." February 22nd, 84 degrees too hot to finish on this winter day. We ended up having no air at all Friday through Saturday... time to be determined as it is being worked on right now.
We opened the windows, put the fans on and hoped for the best. It was a little rough sleeping, but we survived. It's a rough life I know with these real world problems. Here comes the good part...
Saturday morning, up very early for me. (7:00 am) Could hear the birds singing as all the windows were open.
Went outside with the dog and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the morning with the birds playing the morning music play-list. Being without the air conditioning "forced" me to get up early and go outside early and because the air conditioning man was coming back, I couldn't go anywhere. This all ended up being a wonderful blessing. A lesson in how good it feels to slow down. My husband joined me outside with coffee and peanut butter toast, then our daughter too.
I know I need to do this more often, I love being outside, I love my backyard... I just let routine, obligations and life sometimes get in the way. I need to change my routines and make sure slowing down is a priority in my life.
Just got an update on the air conditioner, we should have air within the hour. But I think I'll keep my windows open today for as long as I can and invite the outside in.
Happy Saturday everyone!
