You’re probably thinking ‘when am I going to find the time and money to do this?’, especially with laptops, TVs, consoles and games already building up on the Christmas lists, sending you into a state of panic!
Well, you needn’t look any further as we’ve come up with some super scary tips that won’t cost the earth for you to get your teeth into. Your home will be transformed into a haunted mansion before you know it!
Don't forget your pumpkin this Halloween!
The essential decorations are:
(All can be bought from your local supermarket and are roughly £1- £2 each! Bargain!)
- Pumpkin: This goes without saying! Don’t forget to carve out a scary face and to insert a tea-light into the centre (it’s best if the adults take over this activity)
- White silly string: This sounds messy but it comes off clothes and home furniture easily and will give an instant cobweb effect
- Orange balloons: Don’t forget to draw scary faces on each balloon with a thick, black marker pen!
- Plastic spiders and bats
- Cardboard skeleton decoration
- Battery powered ‘light up’ pumpkins
Fun activities!
Now that you have all the decorations in place – you will need to organise Halloween activities that everyone can enjoy! Here are some tips:
Scary films
First and foremost, you need make sure there’s plenty of entertainment. Make sure you put scary films on the TV throughout the night, saving your favourite until last. Have plenty of blankets at the ready for everyone to snuggle up on the sofa and hide under! This will really give your party a frightening, Halloween feel. Make sure it’s not too scary for the children though!
Top tips: The best films for all the family to enjoy are Hocus Pocus, Corpse Bride and Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
Apple Bobbing with a twist
Everyone likes to give apple bobbing a go during the Halloween festivities and why not make it even spookier by adding a drop (use sparingly) of green food colouring from your local supermarket to the water. The green, slimy looking water will really add that extra frightening feel to Halloween’s most popular activity.
Top tip: Add some spider shaped sweets into the water too!
Mummy Wrap
Mummy Wrapping is a great game to play with adults and children. It’s really simple and only requires a couple of toilet rolls. This activity is as simple as wrapping up friends in toilet roll to see who creates the best mummy!
Top tip: Make it competitive! Create two teams and race against each other to see who can ‘mummify’ their teams the quickest.
Food & Drink
Make sure you have plenty of easy to cook party food in the freezer and prepare some moulded jelly body parts earlier in the day and leave to set in the fridge.
Top tip: Have a look online for cheap jelly moulds. Some of our favourites include brain, hands, heart and eyes – all of which can be purchased for under a fiver.
