Today the Apple App Store turned 5, and I have to say that the most surprising thing about that is that we’ve only had apps for 5 years.
It’s difficult to imagine what we would have done a half decade ago should we have found ourselves out in the throes of humanity and conversation, only to realize we couldn’t remember the age of what’s his name from that one film we couldn’t remember the name of but loved so very much. Today, thanks to the power of technology, there’s an app for that: IMDB…couldn’t live without it…maybe.
Can anyone recall a time when you weren’t able to avenge the temper-driven birds as they battled the green pigs that imperiled their very existence? More importantly, can you stomach the very thought? …and you guessed it…there’s an app for that too.
Not to mention the terrifying fact that a mere 5 years ago we could not catch up on all of the TV shows we never knew we couldn’t live without while enjoying the company of our fellow commuters who we in no way would ever actually interact with. Netflix you wonderful thing you.
Although, to be fair, it would probably be a fruitless effort anyways, as they’re most likely busy slaying fruit or connecting dots or otherwise engaged in some other app endeavor that prevents them from seeing the crowds their nearly running over. Ah progress!
Seriously, though, it’s pretty amazing how far we’ve come in 5 years. Now all we need is some perspective…I bet there’s an app for that…
