This Easter Sunday, we’re looking up. Not just in observance of the holiday, or to distract from Loyola’s well-fought Final Four loss, but to take in the introduction of (what I hope will be) a new holiday tradition. America, we got a bonafide Easter special (it’s a thing look it up).
After a longer than expected hiatus from its live musical specials, NBC is returning (like certain other somebody) with “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.” And I admit when it comes to most things (and especially musical theater) I am an eternal optimist. But I really feel like NBC may have found their sweet spot with this one.
One, the show is essentially a concert and they’re leaning into the format, which should make it even better for television.
Two, casting is the perfect blend of widely-known performers and Broadway talent (who are very used to that whole live thing).
Three, they’re doing “Jesus Christ Superstar” on Easter, I mean, come on.
And with that, I’ll leave you to your holiday and wish you a very Happy Easter.
p.s. On this holy day, let’s all take a moment today to remember that Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute. Happy Easter!
…bi-daily smile…
p.s. on this day and every day
