I Do Believe in Fairies, I Do!

Posted on the 30 October 2012 by Savemysunshine @savemysunshine

Sunday I hung out with my 20 year old daughter, she is so much fun and makes me laugh all the time. I adore her sense of humor and creativity. Sunday morning, she tried on her Halloween costume for a party she was going to that night and decided she wanted to wear it all day. This reminded me of time when she was a little girl decorating a gingerbread house in her swimsuit.

I love, love, love that she is 20 years old and laughs at herself. We ran errands to the grocery store and to the party store. Yep, she kept her Halloween (Fairy) costume on. She didn't wear the wings, but she did keep the dress on. I was laughing at her and she was laughing at herself. How grown up really.. to be able to say yea, "I think it's funny, I don't care what people think, I want to keep it on." she said with a big smile on her face.

I think there is a great lesson in this, have fun, be who you are and if you want to be a fairy for the day, go for it! Don't take life so serious. I wish I would see more kids dressing themselves, you know the cowboy boots with the shorts, mis-matched clothing and tutus & princess dresses to go shopping in. It's too bad sometimes as parents we say, "no you can't wear that in public." I say why not? Let the imagination and creativity flow.

I was proud to be with my 20 yr old daughter dressed in her fairy dress. Seeing the freedom of being herself brings me joy. Seeing her laugh at herself and not take things too seriously is even better.

I do believe in fairies, I do!
