America has spoken, and 2016 will see the end of American Idol.
Cue your favorite “goodbye song” now…
I stopped watching “American Idol” many, many seasons ago, basically because shows like “The Voice” made it clear that you could have a televised singing competition without humiliating the less-talented hopefuls that showed up to audition.
Still, I admit, part of me feels a little bit of nostalgia for what Idol once was. It paved the way for far superior reality competition shows.
Still it’s had a good long run (13 years, 15 seasons). It’s time.
Really, this has me thinking of other 13-year-old reality television shows that have outlived their relevance and are instead trying out ill-advised, sexist gimmicks, I am talking to you, next season of The Bachelorette (face palm, ABC).
Idol fans, just remember, it’s not over yet, and with what Fox has planned for the final season, I may even be tempted to return for the final bow.
