It’s Okay to Be the Wookie.

Sometimes you dress to fit in, but you only end up standing out.  It’s a big event, but it turns out that no one else is excited as you are.  It happens.

Sometimes you’re the wookie, in a street full of people who are too busy to notice that you made an effort to be part of their community.  So long as long as you’re smiling in that wookie suit, though– it’s okay.

Really and truly.

In fact, it’s better than okay.  It’s awesome.

And, maybe, if you stand there long enough, someone– maybe even a would-be dinosaur– will find their way to you and tell you all about their undying love for Chewbacca.

Your friendship won’t make you fit in all of a sudden, and it won’t make the crowd notice you, and it won’t magically transform everyone into stormtroopers– but it’ll shift your focus.

Hopefully it’ll blur the edges of the big picture and help you see that it’s not a matter of not fitting in– it’s just that you stand out.

Like all stars against a dull night sky.
Like all happy people in a world of distraction.
Like all wookie warriors in a town of civilians.

So, shine bright, loyal friend, and remember –
it’s okay to be the wookie.

“Taking into account the public’s regrettable lack of taste, it is incumbent upon you not to fit in.”
– Janeane Garofalo
