Next week, one of the greatest series currently on television (or streaming) will end its third season, and if you think I'm talking about "Game of Thrones" I'm going to need your nerd card back (they are one of the greatest but they're on season eight).
The show I'm talking about-"The Good Fight"-exists in the slightly less fantastical realm of Chicago (played by NYC). Although, the number of backstabbing storylines would give Westeros a run for its money.
What started as a simple spinoff series of "The Good Wife," has taken on a life and style all its own. As our world has descended into madness the show's reality has become increasingly unhinged and it's an amazing sight to behold.
It's satire, farce, comedy, drama, and a little musical theater all rolled into one glorious kaleidoscopic package. There's even some "Schoolhouse Rock!" worked in so you can feel like you've learned something. Of course, whether or not you actually learn something is entirely up to you. Meaning, you have to pay attention.
The show does not shy away from the many, many difficult topics of the day. In any given episode they'll take on topics of race, free speech, gender equality, and every other triggering topic you can think of.
If that list has you rolling your eyes, here's the twist, they make an argument for both sides, always. Instead of avoiding the difficult discussions "The Good Fight" dives into the absurdity. It shows extremism on both sides and goes right up to that self-righteous, preachy line and pulls a hard U-turn, most likely into an educational video about NDA's.
It's not all pure chaos. There are real moments mixed in with the monologues and shouting matches. There's a method to the madness, but at the same time, it's never completely clear where the show is heading, which is incredibly refreshing. Even better, unlike "Game of Thrones" they'll be back for another season. So, there's still time to join "The Good Fight."
