Kashmir Musing!

Posted on the 13 October 2013 by Justalovelythought @justalovelythou
Can India afford Kashmir anymore? I know I may to attracting a lot of flak by saying this but isn't it a question to ponder on? Isn't it too much to bear it for so long? How long the innocent people of  the valley will keep suffering and will live under army surveillance? How long will we keep sacrificing our precious army men?
Since the inception of India and Pakistan which was a flawed process in the first place, in my opinion, Kashmir is an issue which has sucked a lot of things from India. Our funds, focus, energy and political will is wasted. Nothing has come out till date. I doubt anything will.
Let me put some thoughts upfront. Since 1947 major chunk of our armed forces are deployed in Kashmir. Its been more than 50 years we are having constant scuffle, talks, discussions, arguments, ceasefire violations and worst of all communal violence, terrorism and upsurge of jehad.
A lot of Indian taxpayers money is going to Kashmir as special package for the state. There are so many other said and unsaid perks which are being offered by any central government to the state of Kashmir. Why? A state which is capable of self sustenance just by its tourism industry leave other trade and business opportunities is crippled.
Law and order, education, normal life these things are oxymoron for the people of Kashmir unless they migrate to a Delhi or Mumbai! There are many such incidents where a simple growth story from Kashmir has been subjected to great speculation. Either by curiosity or just by simply mock it down.
People of Kashmir are certainly divided as far as belonging to India or Pakistan is concerned. Or for that matter just being left alone. The public is sick and tired of seeing army on the road. Raiding any house or shop just because they suspect some dubious activity. Are they happy? I don't think they are. Both countries claiming the ownership on this beautiful valley state. Where do they want to go? India or Pakistan? Or they want to be just left alone? Why not let the people of Kashmir decide?
Any talk or treaty or discussion has failed to bring in peace in the valley. All we see is blood. All we see is growing discomfort and misplaced sense of belonging to a particular country, if any.
Listen to any leader of both the sides and you know that its not going anywhere. I don't think any political party or person has the will or wish to put an end yo this. They want this to go on. Guess this gives these people a talk or discussion point. As far as Pakistan and Politicians of Kashmir is concerned I understand that they don't want it to end for obvious reasons. But why India is not able to take any firm step to put an end to this, I fail to understand.
Keeping all these things in mind. Wont it be wise for Indian government to set them free? We may play the role of a larger state and set them free? Give them the freedom to choose where do they want to go? Protect them full throttle if Pakistan tries to capture? Wont that be a better position than what it is right now?
