Yesterday, the FIFA World Cup’s American viewership took a tough hit with the loss of Team USA to Belgium.  Meaning, offices of the U.S. are returning to their normal levels of productivity next week (it is the 4th of July, after all).

If you’re considering abandoning the World Cup purely because your team is out of the running, allow me just a few moments to persuade you to rethink this decision.

This is an international event, and whether we want to admit it or not, that includes the US.  So, why not join in on all the frenzy and excitement.

While I can understand your patriotic impulses, the fact is, the US made it further then they were supposed to, so you can consider your obligations to root for the home team fulfilled.

Now, you can focus your cheering energies on a team that has a chance of winning the World Cup.  Here are a few suggestions to help make your decision easier:

  • Brazil – If you’re a loyal follower of whoever is most likely to win.
  • France or Germany – If you like just a little bit of uncertainty.
  • Cost Rica – If you’re a fan of the underdog, and are okay with picking a new team for the semi-final.

Although, you can always just go with everyone’s favorite team, the one who is currently winning.  No matter who you choose to root for or against, it should be an exciting World Cup.  Why not join in?
