As with the Battle of Lepanto of October 7, 1571, Filipino soldiers credited her intercession for victory during the Battles of La Naval de Manila against Dutch invasion.
Measuring some 1.52 meters, the body is made of hardwood while the face and hands including Child Jesus in its are made of genuine ivory. Since its creation, the statue has always been decorated with elaborate garments and queenly crown. It is considered the oldest dated ivory carving in the Philippines dated 1906 as Pope Paul VI proclaimed her Patroness of Quezon City and Pope John Paul II proclaims her Patroness of the Philippine Navy.
