…Land On Your Feet

…Land On Your FeetToday I'm going to do something I never thought I'd do - defend "Cats" (sort of). Just to be clear, that's "Cats" as in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical based on "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" by T.S. Eliot, not cats as in felines. The felines can defend themselves.

The first trailer was let loose late last week, and Twitter's reaction did not disappoint. In some ways, it was wonderful. Cats watching "Cats" is now a thing, and the world is better for it. Although, the best one I've seen is actually a dog watching "Cats."

So @PattiMurin asked peeps to film their cats watching the Cats trailer so of course I filmed my dog & he just has the best natural comic timing I'm such a proud parent it's amazing to see ur children follow in ur footsteps & thrive pic.twitter.com/wRscLaS0CR

That facial expression pretty succinctly sums up "Cats," but I'll elaborate anyway.

First of all, if you haven't seen it yet, feel free to scroll to the bottom and check it out now. I'll wait.

Okay now, upon first (or 50th) viewing if you found yourself feeling slightly unsettled, mildly confused, and a little intrigued, you're not alone. Those emotions pretty much sum up the "Cats" experience.

The fact that this short trailer elicited so many strong responses, tells me that Tom Hooper nailed it.

However, if you're still hung up on the non-sensical nature of the trailer allow me to explain. "Cats" makes absolutely zero sense, and that's kind of the point.

Just think of it as an actual cat. Sometimes they appear to be emotionally intelligent, insightful creatures. Sometimes they lick their own butts. Sometimes they're adorable. Other times you're pretty sure they're plotting to murder you in your sleep, but they're almost always entertaining.

That, in a nutshell, is "Cats," which I suppose doesn't need my defense either. However, much like actual cats, it does sometimes require some explanation.

The other thing about "Cats" and cats is that they have a tendency to land on their feet, which is something we could all draw inspiration from...especially on a Monday.
