…Learn a Lesson

apple_on_deskToday is World Teachers’ Day, and following last night’s VP debate I think we can all use a reminder of the value of teachers.

Teachers, good teachers (to be specific), are the foundation of an informed and free-thinking society that is capable of independent thought and forming their own opinions.

They teach their students to be curious, to think for themselves, to ask questions, and to question everything. Most importantly, they teach their students to love learning, which leads to a lifetime of learning.

Too often this profession is belittled and used as a scapegoat. We’ve all heard the horrible phrase, “those who can’t do, teach,” which couldn’t be further from the truth. Those who care teach. Those who want to share their passion teach. Those who despite the fact that they are underpaid, and often underappreciated, but still go to work each and every day, teach.

My point, appreciate the teachers in your life. Whether they’re in the classroom or elsewhere. We could all use some more good teachers in our lives. Those who share their knowledge, passion, and teach us to think for ourselves.
