…Let It Go

86OscarPoster_LiquidIt’s been well over 24 hours since the curtain went down on the 86th Academy Awards.  Overall, it was a fairly successful event.

Twitter records were set, pizza was ordered and devoured, Jennifer Lawrence tripped again, Matthew McConaughey gave a moving acceptance speech which concluded with an “alright, alright, alright.”

Of course all of that was overshadowed by the most epic line flub of all time, when John Travolta introduced Idina Menzel as Adela Dazeem (or was it Nazeem).

I could go into a week-long rant about how incredibly disrespectful the entire incident was, but I will try and contain myself to just the remainder of this post.

For those who think it was an honest mistake, I admire your positive attitude.  But it’s not like they throw these individuals up on stage without any sort of prep work.  Rehearsals are held.  Scripts are provided.  At the very least, they let you know the name of the individual you will be introducing.

Mr. Travolta can expect to hear every possible mispronunciation of his name for the foreseeable future.  My personal favorite is the one created by the woman herself, Adela Dazeem:

The silver-lining for this whole incident is that now everyone does know Idina Menzel’s name.  In fact, I would venture to guess that more people know her name than would have, had her name been pronounced correctly.  So thanks, Mr. Tromolto!
