We’ve got less than five days to go before Halloween, it’s time to get your game face on.
You have less than week to get your totally socially acceptable Halloween movie viewing in, then it’s time to move on to Christmas (although most retailers already have).
Need a little help getting into the holiday spirit? We highly recommend ABC Family’s 13 Nights of Halloween…but if you need some more motivation, we’ll help you out.
Since you’re short on time, we thought we’d give a jump-start with some of the Halloween entertainment that haunts our October.
Don’t be too nervous, we’re not big fans of horror flicks (Psychological thrillers, yes. Gore fests with screaming teenagers, no.) So, here they are 2WC’s top Halloween viewing choices, they may not be scary, but they’re still a scream:
Zer:
I have to start my top picks with a classic —“Ghostbusters.” Okay, so it’s more of a comedy than a horror flick. In fact it’s not really even scary unless you’re terrified of comedy, slime, or giant marshmallow men. But you can’t argue that this film has stood the test of time. Believe it or not, “Ghostbusters” celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, and it’s just as hilarious today.
Okay, so my second choice isn’t really scary either, but I think most film buffs will agree it totally belongs on every Halloween film list — “Young Frankenstein.” Much like my first pick, Mel Brooks’ take on Mary Shelley’s gothic novel is a classic. If you haven’t seen it, take it upon yourself to correct that problem this Halloween season. Seriously, if you watch one Halloween film this year, make it this one.
Stephanie:
It’s hard to pick just a few, but here are my favorites of the moment:
Nothing quite says Halloween to me like a bit of stop-motion. There’s the obvious choice of “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” which also transitions nicely to the Christmas season, but my favorite right now (although “Boxtrolls” is neck and neck with it) is “ParaNorman.” It’s just the right amount of spooky with the comfort of claymation.
I will always, always recommend that those who haven’t read the Harry Potter series, to do so immediately. Yes, everyone. That includes you, adults reading this and turning up your noses. It’s a huge part of recent pop culture in our society, a society which you are (presumably) a part of, but I’m getting off point. The point is, if you haven’t even seen the movies, and want to at least somewhat enjoy the new Harry Potter story that’s set to be released Friday, you better start your Harry Potter movie marathon now. Of course, Harry Potter is a joy year round, but there’s something about the Halloween season (and Christmas, for that matter), that just make it extra special:
