Hello there!

In a previous blog post I told you about how my family and I got rid of most of our worldly belongings, packed what we had left into one single suitcase, and relocated to the United Arab Emirates. Don’t worry, I’m not going to suggest that you abandon your homeland and hop on the next plane to Dubai. But I do want to talk a little about decluttering.

Summer has just arrived. The prospect of sunny days ahead has certainly put me in a great mood. So this is the perfect time to lighten the clutter load.

As I mentioned before, I’m a minimalist at heart. But even I tend to accumulate clutter. It seems to sneak into my home when I’m not looking. And when too much junk begins piling up around me, I start to feel trapped. That’s when I know it’s time to roll up my sleeves and get to work on clearing out my closet and cleaning the cupboards.

Getting rid of possessions that I no longer really need or rarely use is a liberating experience. It helps me to center myself. I feel calmer and much more clear-headed when there isn’t a bunch of clutter hanging around the house.

In terms of possessions, all that matters is what you want, not what everyone else thinks you should have. Keep the things you use, the ones you love, and those that make you smile. Everything else is clutter.

A boat travels faster over water when its heavy burden is lightened…

What does that mean exactly?

It means asking yourself what you could let go of in order to move forward more easily. Clutter can hold you back and weigh you down both mentally and in the literal sense. Identify your excess baggage and throw it overboard. Don’t cling to things that weigh you down. Lighten the load and make this summer your best one yet!

That’s all from me for now. Have a fantastic weekend.

– Sofia
