52 week project – Week 1 – LIVE

I can remember getting the tickets as a birthday present from my sister. It was a long wait, months in fact, and that felt like forever. Listening to their albums over and over, feeling that rush of excitement every time I thought about it. You see, Green Day are my favorite band. Ever. I first heard them when I was about 11. My Dad had their album International Superhits on whilst packing up his belongings to move to Wales. I was sitting in my room on my brand new laptop and heard Basket Case…for all of you that know that song, it would be impossible to not want to find out who this band was. From that day on, I was literally in love…okay not literally, obsessed could be another word for it.

The day finally arrived. It was 24th October 2009 and I was 14. It was at the O2 arena in London and me and my sister waited in line from about Midday till around 7PM when we were let in to see the support acts. It was a long wait, sitting on the floor for 7 hours isn’t the comfiest, but I’d do it all again in a flash, and have done two other times for Green Day! (Wembley 2010 and Rock En Seine 2012) I can still remember now the adrenaline that pumped through me as we were let in. Hundreds of people around me wanted the same spot…to be at the barrier. I was so excited I could barely move and my sister was practically dragging me because I couldn’t run as fast. But I didn’t wait for 7 hours for nothing, we got to the front and all I could do for the next couple of hours was wait in anticipation for Green Day. And finally, they came on. With Song of the Century playing, Green Day just metres away behind the walls, they finally all ran on and straight away hit into 21st Century Breakdown. I’ve probably never felt so ecstatic in all my existence. It seems funny doesn’t it, that three normal men, playing music can conjure up so many powerful emotions, and knowing that everyone around you is feeling the same.

The 24th October 2009, 19th June 2010 and 26th August 2012 were three of the best days of my life. Seeing Green Day live…there is honestly no other feeling in the world as good as that. The date in August, me and my Dad finally got to go together after spending a wonderful week driving around France. As it was him who introduced them too me, it was just magical.

I’m also very much looking forward to seeing them at Emirates Stadium in London this June…so I’m sure there will be another blog post!

Have you interpreted the word ‘LIVE’ in anyway at all? If so, let me know!
