…lose It

…lose it

Balance is an important part of life.  It keeps us healthy, happy, and hopefully sane.

So, I understand the thought behind putting calorie counts on menus.  It’s convenient for those who keep an eye on such things, and given the growing rate of obesity in our country, it can’t hurt.

Right?

Wrong.

Some recent surveys have found that the inclusion of calories on menus has actually increased the number of calories people are ordering.

My money’s on the probability that many of these “study participants” are confusing the calorie counts for prices…you’d be surprised how often the mistake is made…but pardon the grumblings of a former food service industry worker.

The point is, this attempt to better inform the public in their caloric intake does not seem to be resulting in lower calorie choices.  Personally, I know that few things I get at McDonald’s are going to be good for me.  I don’t need a number to tell me that, but I digress.

Not to be deterred, a new strategy is in the works.  Instead of putting calorie numbers why not list the amount of exercise you’d have to do to burn off the 1,000 calorie salad?

In other news: Menus expected to double in size in 2014!

Seriously, where are they going to fit this documentation? I will say, it’s a little more reasonable, active, and relatable.  Personally, I’d just like to be left alone to enjoy my burger and fries without your judgment.  I’ll deal with the 1-2 hours of brisk walking I’ll have to pay with later.
