…make a Mad Dash

dirty-shoesRunning is a frequent topic here at 2WC. Both Zer and myself have covered countless races, training experiences, and the incredible runners’ high. So, when I saw the scientists had recorded the thoughts of runners in a recent study, I was intrigued…mostly about the fact that science has apparently figured out mind-reading…but intrigued  nonetheless.

Disappointingly, the study is not about mind-reading technology, but a disappointing analysis of what runners muttered into a microphone while out for a jog.

The results were decidedly unexciting with runners spending 40 percent of the time thinking about speed and pacing, and an alarming amount of the time (32 percent) thinking primarily about the pain.

Well, the secret’s out now. Runners are not gleefully skipping through those long runs. We’re masochists.

Personally, I’m in the “thinking about everything but running” frame of mind when I go out for a jog. I call it the zone-out training program. It works wonders and would probably make for an interesting listen, researchers. Next time.
