…make an Exception

Just as we’re all coming down from the high of the Golden Globes, the Oscar nominations have arrived.

Disappointingly, there’s nothing too shocking to report. Unless you count the mild outrage over all of the inevitable snubs.

Unfortunately, you can’t nominate everyone. There’s just not room, and who’s to say who deserved it more. Should Tom Hanks have been nominated? Perhaps. Was Emma Thompson’s performance in “Saving Mr. Banks” Oscar worthy? Of course.  Did “Monster’s University” get screwed over? Not really, you all need to get over that.

Still, in most cases, the question of course then becomes: Which of the nominees would you then deem less worthy?

At the end of the day it’s a subjective call…for the most part.

I’m not even going to touch the fact that there are once again only 9 nominees for best picture, even though the category allows for 10 nominees. I won’t mention how ridiculous the equation that allows for this is. It’s just a shame that there were only 9 movies this year that were worthy of your nomination oh wise and all-powerful Academy.

…but I won’t rehash that old complaint.

No, today I’ll reserve for anticipation, speculation, and preparation—anyone looking to view the Oscars as an educated viewer, the clock starts today (actually it started several months ago, but now you have a definite list to work with). So go forth and see great movies. Happy viewing!
