Today, the 116th U.S. Congress is sworn in. For many, hopes are high and so are expectations.
It's easy to see why. This is the most diverse Congress in U.S. history. That's diversity across the board - race, religion, and most notably gender.
A record-breaking number of women will claim seats in both the Senate and House of Representatives. That's 102 women in the House, 25 in the Senate, and about a quarter of the entire Congress.
It's a fantastic accomplishment, but it's also a jarring reminder that this shiny new Congress still exists in our world. It's a world that is far from perfect.
By all means, enjoy the pomp and circumstance of today and keep those hopes high. Just maybe don't hang them all on the 116th Congress. They're only human after all.
