…motivate

…motivate

It’s a new year, new you.  At least that’s what the self-help industry would like you to believe.

However, the truth is that most of us have something about ourselves we would like to change and the beginning of the new year seems like as good a time as any to change it.  Right?

Lucky for us, reading a book about how to vastly improve some aspect of our lives is no longer necessary…there’s an app for that.  Well, several apps for that.

There are apps for working out.  Some of them not only provide you a schedule, they ding you if you miss a work-out.  Yes, that’s right, miss a trip to the gym and you will literally pay for it.  You can select a charity or a friend to send the proceeds of your failure to, or you can probably lie to the app.

Of course, despite the popular belief, some people do have resolutions that do not revolve around losing weight. So, if you’re looking to improve your mornings in 2013 through shame and public ridicule, there’s an app for that too. Shame Alarm, gives you fifteen seconds to shut it off or it posts something derogatory about  you on Facebook.  And again, you can probably lie to the app.

Here’s hoping being more honest with your mobile devices isn’t a secondary resolution.

So pick your poison: Inspiration, monetary punishment, or shame.

Okay, so none of these apps actually provide inspiration as a motivator, but abandoning my eternal optimism is not part of my new year’s resolution.  Good luck with the new you!
