…Move Right Along

Muppets_Most_Wanted“Muppets Most Wanted” picks up right where 2011′s “The Muppets” left off. Actually, there might even be an overlap of five seconds, or so.

This musical caper, directed by James Bobin, and starring everyone’s favorite frog, has all the zany humor and craziness we’ve grown to love and expect from the Muppets.

After enjoying the glow of their return to the spotlight for about five seconds, the Muppets learn one of Hollywood’s most important lessons —you’re only as good as you’re next project.

Soon they’re off on world your with their new tour manager, Dominic Badguy (Ricky Gervais). It’s pronounced Badjee, if you’re thinking that’s an obvious name for the villain.

Through a series of calculated events, and some seriously sinister plotting, K ends up being replaced by his doppelganger who also happens to be the world’s number one criminal — Constantine.

In true Muppets’ fashion, no one notices in spite of Constantine’s awfully suspicious accent.

Meanwhile, Kermit is stuck in a Russian gulag paying for Constantine’s crimes. Which isn’t as bad as it sounds considering it’s warden, Nadya (Tina Fey) is Kermit’s number one fan. However, it does make his escape a little more difficult. Of course in the end everything works out, and then there’s a song about it.

“Muppets Most Wanted” is not as good as its 2011 predecessor. That being said, it’s still a really good movie.

Because of the success of “The Muppets” the cameo star power in this sequel has increased exponentially. Pretty much every “extra” that wanders through the background is a name or a face that the movie and television buffs will recognize.

The movie’s main flaw is it’s story structure.

A world tour follow-up, was a really good idea. An evil Kermit look alike, also a good idea. The execution isn’t perfect. The film gets bogged down at times by too many storylines. Fortunately, each of these lines are entertaining.

For example, the plot to steal the crown jewels, probably not necessary, but it did allow for the amusing duo, Interpol Agent Jean Pierre Napoleon (Ty Burrell) and CIA’s Sam the Eagle. Who are easily the most amusing pair of the movie. So, it’s a forgivable flaw.

Overall, it’s a funny, sweet, a little strange, and exactly what a Muppet movie should be.
