Greenberg is Ben Stiller in a new way. Dark, moody, awkward, and truly just a depressing movie about people that are deeply unhappy.
Maybe I'm not "deep" enough to get the point of movies like this, but I just feel like their really wasn't much of a story. I thought the setting--Greenberg's rich brother's house, where he is housesitting while they travel to Vietnam for a few weeks--was going to tie into money not being the key to happiness, but it never did. I guess the relationship at the center of the story was supposed to be the point, but it was a terrible relationship that didn't have any believable basis.
In my defense, I do like some movies that are moody and emotional--Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my favorite movies--and this one just didn't do it for me. I didn't feel like anyone learned any lessons, and I missed any lessons that were intended for the audience.
I felt like I wasted two hours of my life. Save your time.
