Well not that far away really, just Hebden Bridge, Earth and to be fair there are no rebel forces and evil Empire. Just two wriggly babies that have decided to be tricksters at nappy time.
River and Indigo have coordinated and decided that nappies are just not their thing anymore. So last season apparently. In fact they have decided that naked bottoms are much more 2012, never mind the consequences for their dear mummy (think of the mess!). Unfortunately for my two little angels, this does not fly with me and they will be in nappies for a fair bit longer.
Long gone are the days where they used to just lie on the changing mat nice and still whilst I whipped a nappy on them faster than superman could zip to the other side of planet. Now it is arms, and legs everywhere, body popping, yoga moves and using the (thankfully clean) nappy as a teething toy. So much fun! I am starting to wish I had a few extra arms.
Indigo's favorite thing to do is to lie nice and still and then just when you have slid the nappy under her she gets into the crab position, legs firmly on the mat body raised, she also likes to lift her head and shoulders up in a kind of pilates sit-up...she is going to have abs of steel. River's favorite thing to do is to roll over onto his front, which is not the easiest of positions to try and put a nappy on someone. He also likes to squeeze his legs together so that you can't get a nappy round him and they both like to reach out for anything in site. If it is within reach, they will grab at it, including hair if you are leaning over them. Plus once you are prepared and have found ways to tackle their changing-time gymnastics, they manage to pull another new move out of the bag. My twins definitely have talent and potential careers as circus acrobats.
Don't get me wrong I love that my babies have well and truly outgrown the stage of lying still, like very gorgeous little lumps. But I have have to say, battling to put a nappy on several times a day is making life 'interesting' in ways I never thought possible. I am hoping this is just a phase. Though I imagine the next thing I have to look forward to is them crawling or walking off when I am in the middle of changing them. But bring it on my sweeties, as I am ready for the challenge!
Secretly I am very impressed with how creative and intelligent they are. I am also guessing that it doesn't hurt that they are total cuties too. Their cuteness is my Kryptonite. It is impossible for me to feel too annoyed with them, even when I am on my third or fourth attempt of wrestling them into a nappy, whilst they giggle and try to grapple the nappy out of my hands...
I am not sure who is winning the nappy war. But in my defence, I am outnumbered!
