ENG. This weekend my mom was watching a Jazz Special about Nat King Cole. I never knew she liked this type of music and I was more surprised to find out that this was my grandma’s favorite singer.
My grandma Juana died in a terrible car accident many years ago when my mom was a teenager. I was named after her and my mom says I look very much like her.
My mom rarely talks about my grandma, so it was very nice to hear a little bit more about her this weekend. She told me she was a lady, a teacher, and an excellent cook! That she used to sew beautiful embroideries like all my aunts do know, and that she had an amazing handwriting too. That she had a passion for jazz and specially for Nat king Cole who was one of the first singers who did the crossover to singing in Spanish too...
Her favorite song was When I fall in Love which, by the way, is one of my favorite songs too! Enjoy!
ESP. Este fin de semana mi mamá estaba viendo un especial de Jazz en la televisión sobre Nat King Cole. Me sorprendió muchísimo porque yo no sabía que a ella le gustaba esta música, y me sorprendió aún más saber que este era uno de los cantantes preferidos de mi abuelita Juanita.
My abuelita Juana murió hace muchos años cuando mi mamá aún era una adolescente en un terrible accidente automovilístico. Mi mamá decidió llamarme como ella y siempre dice que físicamente nos parecemos mucho.
Mi mamá habla muy poco sobre mi abuela, entonces fue muy lindo escucharla hablar un poco más de ella. Me contó que mi abuelita era toda una dama, una profesora, ¡y una excelente cocinera! Que bordaba cosas preciosas como mis tias lo hacen hoy y tenía una caligrafía divina. Me contó que ella tenía una pasión por el jazz, especialmente por Nat King Cole quien fue uno de los primeros cantantes que hizo el crossover de cantar no sólo en inglés sino también en español.
Su canción favorita era Cuando me Enamoro, que por cierto, ¡es una de mis canciones favoritas también!
