This weekend’s box office proved that giant monsters + robots does not always equal a summer blockbuster…or at least not a box office dominating summer blockbuster.
Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim” claimed $38.3 million in its opening weekend. a respectable number, although it was only enough to claim the number three spot this weekend.
Perhaps even more surprising (and upsetting) is what film came in just ahead of it—”Grown Ups 2″
First of all, did the world really need another “Grown Ups” film? Secondly, to those who chose to see it in theaters…really, this looked better than a robots vs. aliens movie?
Of course, in the end the Minions of “Despicable Me 2″ took home the number one spot, so maybe there’s still hope.
