No Distance Left to Run.

No Distance Left to Run.
This photo will make sense in a second. Bear with me on this one.
While perusing the Facebook page of one of my favorite bands Blur, I read that they were collecting "Blur Memories" for a BBC6 radio special. Well my inner nerd (a.k.a me...today) creamed like a teen at a Virgin Megastore In-Store performance and jumped at the opportunity to share my story in the hopes that the band would love my little anecdote of 1995. To make a long and painful story short: no one cared and it wasn't aired. Diss.
This is what got vetoed by the BBC:

Again, diss....

When I was 14 years old, my mother took me to see Blur at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. The show was everything I had hoped for; my mom was at the bar, I hung out with other fans dancing to the songs of what I believe is Britain's greatest rock band of the 90s, and Matt Sharp's side project band, The Rentals was everything you could ask for in an opening act. They were more than just good, they had us all entertained while waiting for our English muffins to come out.
The two hour show came to a sad end, and I didn't want the fun to end and I had somehow talked my mother in to waiting at the backstage door to meet the band....in the middle of February. Bless her. After waiting an hour for them, the foxy Damon Albarn came out and as he was signing autographs, my mother was snapping photos of me as I was trying to blend in like I was a part of the entourage. Some notes of these photos come to mind: Me, 14 years old. Blonde. A mouth full of metal. Ugly. Band's lead singer not caring.
All you can see is my little face peeking at the bottom corner of the glossy CVS-printed photo trying to look like I was "with the band". It was so "hey guys, me too" as I was tying to include myself in the festivities. Séb, who is Mr. Oasis loves this photo because he believes I chose the wrong English band of the 90s to admire. N'importe quoi.

While I wish my 14 year old photo with the fine Damon Albarn was less orthodontic and more Foxy Brown, above is my 30 year old re-shoot, which is more what I had in mind that night. While I was slightly disappointed that the BBC didn't appreciate my Blur memory, I still enjoyed going down memory lane, pulling out my box of rock photos of the 90s, and drinking a Summer Pimm's to The Great Escape in my mom's backyard.

For those of you who are interested and are unfamiliar with Blur, I created this...
