This is
not a Movie review; you can't expect someone to write a review for some movie
after 11 years of its release. So, basically this post is only a dedication to one of my favorite films OCEAN’s ELEVEN.
Ocean’s Eleven is a remake, did you know that, if no, you surely don’t
need to know that anyways, and if yes, please ignore the fact because this here,
this right here is one of the finest remake of any film ever made. I am not
making any remarks on the older version of it, but the reason I love this film
is the slick and suave style of it, which I am pretty certain, that, that style
must had not been in the Ocean’s eleven of 1960.
Talking
of Plot, Danny Ocean wants to knock away three Las Vegas casinos simultaneously
which are under the ownership of Terry Benedict. The reason for this heist is
almost personal for Danny. Now with the help of Rusty Ryan, he recruits a team
of 11 Con-men for the ‘Job’ of achieving this too ambitious heist. And then the
rest was worth watching. It’s a movie you should keep in your shelf forever.
Now the
Cast, to which this post is actually dedicated.
Ocean’s
Eleven has one of the best ensemble cast ever made, George Clooney, Brad Pitt,
Matt Damon and Julia Roberts, remember any other recent flick with such big
names all together, I don’t think so.
For some
reason, Clooney was destined to do the role of Daniel Ocean, he is just the
kind of person Ocean is, Elegant, Suave, Handsome, Classy and Cool headed, I think
it was not a tough call to choose an actor to play Danny.
This
was perhaps something new for Brad Pitt, being just a regular guy called Rusty Ryan;
we all remember him as Tyler Durden of Fight
Club or the Crazy Mickey o’ Neil in Snatch.
He is just not used to play less complex characters, so this one I liked for
Pitt as well.
Matt Damon
aka ‘Jason Bourne’ had already won an Oscar for Good will Hunting before Ocean’s eleven, but it was an important
film for his career, as an actor. All I can say is that his role was bigger and
more important than Brad Pitt’s.
For the
female lead, Julia Roberts was actually a necessity for Ocean’s eleven, because
for someone as big as George Clooney, you need something as elegant and
beautiful as Julia Roberts, I just loved watching her, especially at the last
scene, where she came to pick the CON Daniel Ocean with Ryan.
And let’s
not forget the Antagonist, Andy Garcia, I had only seen him before in Godfather Part III but the fact is that
at times he faded away Al Pacino in Godfather’s 3rd and final
installment. He may not have a great filmography, but he sure is a great actor.
Apart
from the leading people, the rest of the eight con-men namely, Bernie Mac, Elliot Gould, Carl Reiner, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Shaobo Qin, Miguel Perez and Livingston Dell, all of them
was pretty tight on their characters. Some of my favorites among them were
Elliot and Bernie as Reuben Tishkoff and Frank Catton.
You may find more meaningful films than this in the past or in the future. But I tell you what, Ocean’s eleven has something that you would never like to talk about it on the basis of ratings or rankings or awards. It will remain close to your heart.
